We are committed to providing tranparency across our entire app. This includes being one of the few social networks with a fully transparent algorithm.
How Our "For You" Feed Works
Our personalized feed is made up of 4 components, combined and then randomly selected:
- Follows: We select a collection of videos from accounts that you follow.
- Liked: We select a range of videos that are tagged similarly to videos you have liked.
- Hot: We select the current "hottest" videos, based on view count and engagement, falling off over time.
- All-time: We select the most popular videos of all time, based on view count and engagement.
We only show videos in this feed that you have not viewed yet.
Usage Data Collected
In order to provide a personalized feed, we collect the following data:
- Initial View: Each time you view a video we mark it as viewed so it does not show in your feed a second time.
- 80% Viewed: Each time you watch a video to 80% completion, we increment the view count. This allows us to determine which videos are being watched multiple times.
- Liked: When you like a video, we record it and update total video likes. This is used to find similar videos to what you have interacted with, as well as determine most popular videos.
Moderation & Detection of Pornographic Materials
We do our best to detect and filter pornographic materials for our feeds. This is done using machine vision and as such, is fallible. BlueSky also labels pornographic material, but is also sometimes inconsistent.
We apologize if any content slips through our filters. Once reporting content is implemented, we ask that you report any inappropriate content you encounter.
